Asylum seekers, to a large extent, live off welfare payments. Seven out of ten Somalians, who were in the past asylum seekers, still receive social welfare, and half of those who have Syrian, Iraqi or Eritrean nationality live off welfare. Among those who are not asylum seekers, the percentage of Turkish and Moroccan Dutchman who live off welfare is very large. On the other hand, Polish immigrants hardly apply for social welfare. All in all, 481,000 received welfare payments in 2014.

The Wall Street Journal has published an article which points out that the Netherlands is the only country which has neither admitted nor apologized for the failure of its war time government, then exiled to London, to express any interest to what was happening to its Jewish citizens under the German occupation. Answers by Prime Minister Rutte to parliamentary questions have made it clear that the country does not want to admit its collaboration with the German regime.

There are reports that Muslim institutions in the Hague are collecting money for a mosque to be led by the hate-Imam Fawaz Jneid. Through meetings conducted during the Ramadan holiday, supposedly €400,000 were collected. Until 2012, Fawaz preached in the As-Soenah mosque in the Hague, but the board stopped the collaboration as he conducted Muslim marriages without being preceded by civil marriages. This is illegal according to Dutch law, and Fawaz was found guilty of doing so. He also wished that movie maker Theo van Gogh get an incurable disease. Shortly afterward, Van Gogh was murdered by a Muslim.

Dutch exports to Russia have dwindled in half. In the first four months of 2015, the Netherlands exported €1.26 million worth of goods and services to Russia, as against €2.07 billion in the same period the previous year. These results were obtained from the Central Bureau of Statistics. In May 2014, Russia announced that it would boycott agricultural products from countries which participate in the sanctions against Russia.

Parliamentarian Joram van Klaveren (Bontes Group) has proposed that institutions which invite preachers of violence to lecture should lose their tax advantages. Klaveren said that such fiscal measures will discourage Muslim organizations from inviting hate-imams.

Frank Scheffer, who has helped establish the guidelines to determine when police officers are allowed to use force, says that the police management remains vague about providing such instructions to police officers. His statement came after an outcry when a police officer was condemned to a two-year sentence for shooting at a suspect he was trying to arrest.

The Amsterdam Goodwill Homage Foundation received a €600,000 subsidy to train seventy illegal foreigners for employment and subsequent return to their country of origin. Only twenty foreigners received training, and even these were not provided with the appropriate course. The foundation has filed for bankruptcy.

The monthly Opzij has found that half of Dutch hospitals are unwilling to provide IVF fertility treatments to single women. This goes against the guidelines of gynecologists. Back in 2010, the then-Minister of Public Health, Ab Klink, informed hospitals and clinics that they could not systematically refuse single women and lesbian couples fertility treatments.

Herman Bolhaar, the head of the Dutch official prosecution, has said that the cache of weapons found last week in the town of Nieuwegein is the biggest yet. Eight people have been arrested. They are suspected of preparing mob hits in the framework of the war between criminal factions within the Netherlands.

Russia is considering implementing a stop on the import of all Dutch flowers. The official reason which is given is that the flowers are full of insects. Bloomberg says that according to its sources, the real reason is that the Netherlands wants to bring out the truth about the incident in which an aircraft was shot down over the Ukraine, where almost 200 Dutchmen died. [The Russian-supported Ukrainian rebels are the main suspects in the matter.]

The long term unemployment in the Netherlands has tripled since 2009. Presently, 2.8% of the professional population has been unemployed for at least a year. These make up 40% of the total unemployment. Most of those who have been unemployed in the long term are relatively older and have a lower level of education, which diminishes their chances of gaining suitable employment.

The head of the prosecution, Herman Bolhaar, has apologized to the family of the late Deputy Prime Minister Els Borst and to the family of the sister of the presumed murderer. The defendant is accused of having murdered both the Minister and his own sister. A public commission concluded that the prosecution had greatly failed in dealing with the accused. The inspectorate of the Ministry of Environment and Transport has declared invalid a hundred medical certificates issued by the European Aviation Medical Center (EAMC) in Rijen. They concern 99 pilots and 1 air traffic controller. The inspectorate has asked the prosecution to start a criminal investigation of the EAMC. Ton Heerts, the head of the major trade union FNV, says that the government is raising the salaries of bureaucrats, and at the same time it is lowering its contributions to pensions. Heerts said that in this way, the pensions of about three million people are being put in danger. He does not exclude the possibility of a major public protest.

For years, teachers at the Theater School in Amsterdam had frequent sexual relations with their pupils. In 2014, one teacher left the school in order to avoid a detailed investigation of his behavior. Another teacher said that in the 1980s, the heads of the schools also behaved in this manner as well. A comedienne who attended the school recently spoke about the relations she had with her teacher. In September, a novel will be published which will relate the abuse of the students in their relationships with their teachers. The heads of the school now say that they will no longer tolerate such behavior.

Belgium has revoked the residency permit of the radical Morrocan-Dutch Imam El Alami Amaouch, also known as Alami abu Hamza. He was active in extremist circles near Verviers. Within thirty days, El Alami will be deported to the Netherlands. Deputy Minister of Asylum and Migration Theo Francken has called El Alami a danger to Belgian society. Francken added, “He is poison for our Muslim youngsters. He glorifies terrorism.” El Alami has lived in Belgium since 2006.

Geert Priem of the police union, ANPV, says that police officers are reluctant to use their weapons against people who attack them. They are afraid that the authorities will censure them. Priem added that the majority of violence is against the police and that civilians do not have the right to use violence against the police.

The prosecution has announced that in the framework of a major scandal, two purchasing officials of the police department and four officials of the Ministry of Defense will be brought to court on corruption charges regarding the purchase of police vehicles. In total, there are 47 suspects, which include officials, car companies and employees of these companies. The case concerns the purchase of 13,000 police vehicles in 2010.

In view of the great demand, only those with severe psychological disorders such as depression or phobias can now be treated by the mental health services. All others are referred to general practitioners who are assisted by the mental health service, rather than being directly referred to the more expensive mental health services. In 2010, one in thirty such patients used the general practitioners; in 2014, numbers rose to one in six people with psychosocial problems.

An employee of the Dutch tax authority stole €19.5 million last year. This was possible due to the failure of controls at the tax authority and at the large Dutch bank, Rabobank. This was discovered by the fiscal detective service FIOD. The stolen money was transferred to Turkish bank accounts. Part of the money was used to buy gold and €1.3 million was withdrawn as cash.

Another four people were arrested after the recent riots in the Schilderswijk neighborhood of the Hague. None of them are local residents. Of those who were arrested, 83 are minors. The riots took place after an Aruban national was strangled by the police during his arrest.

Hans Blom, a historian who headed the Dutch Institute for War Documentation (NIOD) said that it was an illusion that the Dutch soldiers in Srebrenica could have counted on air support in 1995 from NATO. When the Dutch soldiers fled, Bosnian Serbs conquered the enclave and afterward murdered 8,000 Muslims. Blom said that the Netherlands could have known that the promises of the UN were not very firm. He said, “In UN circles, where the French and the British dominated, there was an enormous reluctance to use the air force, and that is an understatement.”

Mitch Henriquez, of Aruba, was forcefully arrested by the police. Amnesty International says that the investigation by the national detective service was insufficient. They say that an external investigation commission has to evaluate the police actions involved in the case and should specifically investigate whether racial discrimination played a role.

Due to the “Go Slow” actions by customs personnel at Amsterdam Schiphol airport, incoming travelers face delays between three-quarters of an hour to an hour. The luggage of all incoming passengers is controlled by the customs officials. They want to obtain a salary increase from the government.

The four Dutch tour operators who sent holiday-makers to Tunisia have brought them back after the horrific killing of 38 people by terrorists on a beach near the resort town of Sousse. Almost 300 people were evacuated on a joint flight. This happened after the Dutch foreign ministry advised against all but essential travel to Tunisia. All planned holidays to Tunisia have been cancelled.

The American artists’ collective, Ghana Think Tank, has exposed a small building at an exhibition in Leiden. It was initially called the “Anne Frank Mosque”. After much protest, however, the name was changed to “Monument to the Dutch”. Yet protests from Christians, Jews and Muslims continued.

The Free University in Amsterdam arranged a public meeting together with Students for Justice in Palestine (SRP). This with the purpose of discussing a boycott of Israel. One of the SRP inciters called Israel “a genocidal apartheid state”. The president of the university board, Jaap de Winter, concluded the extreme hate-debate by saying that it was a beautiful debate, which fit the purposes of university perfectly.
