Jewish Community: Former Minister Unfit to be Amsterdam Mayor

Former minister of integration, Eberhard van der Laan, (Labor Party) said at a Remembrance Ceremony in the Hague on National Memorial Day that remembrance of the second world war can go into partial retirement and should only be commemorated once every five years. Van der Laan also said that the history of the Jews having been abandoned by Dutchmen in the Netherlands should be revised. The Jewish community in Amsterdam reacted saying that in no other western European country more than 70% of the Jews were deported and murdered. They added that they consider Van der Laan who is running for position of Mayor of Amsterdam unfit for the position.
