Crime Costs Rise 55% in Two Years

According to the Ministry of Justice’s WODC research office, criminality cost Dutch society 31 billion Euro in 2006, as compared to 20 billion Euro in 2004. This translates into an average of almost 2000 Euro per Dutchman. Sixty-seven percent of the amount consists of damage to business, private people and the Government. Twenty-one percent consists of government expenses in reaction to crime and 12% are the cost of preventive measures by business and private individuals.
